Functions of the Calibration Management Software

Gauges lie at the beginning of all quality management efforts. They are essentially the sole interface between the measured object and the measured value and it is safe to say that this value lies at the beginning of all quality management efforts. If, for whatever reason, the value is not measured correctly, all subsequent QM processes such as incoming/outgoing goods inspections, SPC, or quality planning will be in vain. As the reliability of information is determined right at the point of its initial collection, perfectly functioning gauges are essential for successful quality assurance. PMM.Net ensures precisely that and, when used as MSA Software, furthermore facilitates the determination of measuring equipment capability and measuring system capability.

Calibration management is applied in order to ensure that the employed gauges are always correctly calibrated and in sound working order. It furthermore organizes the acquisition, application, and maintenance of all gauges. And this is where the Calibration Management Software PMM.Net comes into play. The application of the software solution allows you to perform calibration management as an active process. It facilitates the planning and monitoring of both freely determined and manufacturer-specific maintenance intervals. For example, maintenance intervals can be planned dynamically according to wear and tear or freely according to individual time intervals. All processes are subsequently monitored and documented automatically. The software also supports you in your planning by including company holidays, public holidays, or the precise definition of which days are to be checked. Throughout all of this it doesn’t matter whether you wish to monitor 10, 1000 or 100,000 gauges: all relevant information such as type of device, ID-number, location, specification, current user, calibration interval, or calibration results is consistently maintained in the system for each individual gauge.

Gauge assistants in the calibration management software PMM.Net
Standard-compliant MSA / gauge capability inspections

The integrated assistants support you throughout the standard-compliant application of VDI / VDE inspection plans or gauge capability monitoring in accordance with MSA 1-6 and VDA 5. These integrated tools greatly simplify inspection planning and gauge inspections and thereby eliminate the error-potential of manual calibration management. In addition to the internal testing and calibration of gauges or test equipment, the exchange of data with external service providers and laboratories is also supported in PMM.Net. The easiest way to import data within this context is the automatic import and standard-compliant archiving of simple PDF test certificates. However, the comprehensive bidirectional data exchange according to VDI / VDE 2623 offers considerably more possibilities. This standard facilitates the direct exchange of gauge-related information via the CDE-format (Calibration Data Exchange).

Definition of capability index, GRR, linearity, Kappa-index and effectivity

In order to be able to simplify the integration of gauges into your daily inspection planning processes, the software application contains a variety of predefined fitting tables and inspection standards such as DIN 286, DIN 862, DIN 863, or DIN 7162. Simply select the applicable entity from the overview while planning your inspection or defining your inspection characteristics. Thanks to the complete integration of these standards, there is no need to consult additional tables and thus the likelihood of typos or data transmission errors is eliminated.

PMM.Net assists you by facilitating consistent traceability as it records the full history of each gauge. This data includes all important documents such as instruction manuals or maintenance certificates. In order to consistently keep an eye on the gauges themselves, the software contains functions such as browser-based gauge-lending or gauge-monitoring via barcode, QR, and RFID. The software can also be integrated in existing physical calibration management facilities per interface / OpenAPI.

Many gauges consist of several individual components and thus exhibit a special challenge for the organization and execution of calibrations and maintenance jobs. The software PMM.Net therefore allows you to consolidate any number of a gauge’s components in one group. This allows you to synchronize inspection dates and ensure that the entire device is calibrated in one go – thereby significantly reducing the planning effort and power-off hours caused by otherwise varying calibration dates.

A fully linked CAQ-system like CAQ.Net provides measures that go way beyond the mere adherence to standards and protection against legal matters. Apart from providing real-time monitoring and documentation of the state of a gauge as well as its location of use and calibration status, the calibration management module PMM.Net ensures that only gauges which are available and in sound working order are planned and implemented in measuring processes – thus eliminating the possibility that faulty or unsuitable gauges are used. All of this creates powerful synergies throughout the entire quality management of a company and highlights calibration management’s status as integral part of the comprehensive PDCA-cycle.

From a management point of view, the full integration of PMM.Net into existing external systems (e.g. ERP, DMS, ...) as well as the transfer of already existing gauge data plays an important role. The software here not only ensures a high level of data transparency and information availability, but also eliminates the need for double data maintenance.

True to the idea of efficiency, PMM.Net also provides comprehensive assistance for cost and finance management matters as well. It allows you to conveniently retrieve current sums and facts regarding maintenance, inspections or calibrations at the click of a button and use this data to compile detailed cost-center or gauge-specific financial overviews. The software application thereby allows you to lay the foundations for effective and efficient gauge-related cost controlling.

The additional gauge management app provides you with access to all gauges and other test equipment contained in the software PMM.Net and allows you to monitor and manage these items from your smartphone or tablet. The integrated QR code function allows you to, for instance, use the camera to identify gauges and perform appropriate status updates. The app is available in the App Store as well as in the Google Play Store and connection to QAM.Net is facilitated via CAQ.Net’s OpenAPI interface.
